On behalf of the Czech Heart Foundation, we would like to introduce a project that aims to improve the awareness of the Czech public about diseases of the cardiovascular system. This group of diseases represents the most common cause of death not only in the Czech Republic, but in the vast majority of the developed world. The low public awareness of the timely initiation and correct performance of resuscitation was the main motivation for the creation of the project, which aims to increase this awareness through one-off courses of cardiopulmonary resuscitation. We have prepared courses where we use interactive models to explain and practice the basics of recognizing a life-threatening situation and the subsequent procedure for securing life functions in an entertaining way. The main goal is to master the most important life-saving procedure, cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
The courses are of course free of charge due to the nature of the Foundation.
What is the project about?
The project is for lay people who do not know what to do if someone near them loses consciousness (the project is not for people already educated in performing CPR).
Cardiac arrest can affect not only a person with a known heart condition, but also a young person, a friend, a family member or a random passer-by. With every minute of cardiac arrest, the likelihood of survival decreases by approximately ten percent.
Properly performed and immediately initiated resuscitation can help double the affected person's chances of survival.
The resuscitation procedure
What to do if someone nearby loses consciousness?
If the person is unresponsive (try to pinch, shake the shoulders) we have to tilt the head and raise the chin - in an unconscious person the airway is often blocked by the tongue root - just tilting the head with the chin raised will delay the tongue root and thus open the airway.
If the person is unresponsive and not breathing, or making sounds similar to grunting/snoring - it is necessary to call for help first! Shout and call 155 and only then start CPR!
Compress approximately twice per second and approximately 5-6 cm. If the casualty does not struggle or start to wake up, continue resuscitation until the casualty is handed over to the emergency services.
If he/she wakes up, opens his/her eyes, moves - we stop the resuscitation but keep the airway clear and check the state of consciousness until the patient is handed over to the rescue team.
We have prepared courses where we use interactive models to explain in an entertaining way and teach the basics of recognizing a life-threatening situation and the subsequent procedure for securing life functions through practical training. The main goal is to master the most important life-saving procedure, cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
